In the wake of outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus (COVlD-19), in a first of its kind initiative, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research organized virtual Director’s Conference through Video Conferencing today using Learning Management System of NeGD Ministry of IT, Government of India. While interacting with the Directors of 113 ICAR Institutes, Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & DG (ICAR) urged to take the preventive measures to contain the spread of COVID-19. Apart from this, eight pre-conference subject meetings were also held virtually during March 17-18, 2020.
Dr. Mohapatra stressed on the need to develop research programs based on ecosystems in inter-disciplinary manner. The Director General emphasized for accelerating out efforts on creation of end-to-end value chains that would help in effectively linking producers with the markets. He stressed on carrying out impact analysis of ICAR technologies and making extra efforts to enable the transfer of technologies to the farmers. He urged to use appropriate digital platforms and make usable databases for the benefit of all stakeholders. Directors were further sensitized to use latest technologies such Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, IoT and sensors in their research to make it more effective and globally competitive.
Directors of all institutes took part in deliberations. They spoke about the significant achievements, constrains/critical issues, which are to be addressed, efforts being made at the institute level to meet COVID-19 challenge and their programs for making new EFC. Full budget utilization was emphasized, and all Directors were advised to take necessary steps in this regard.
The Additional Secretory (DARE) and Secretory (ICAR), Deputy Director Generals of different Subject Matter Divisions of the Council and other senior officials heading different, research, administration and finance Sections/Units of ICAR Headquarters took part in the deliberation during this Video Conference.
