The ICAR-Directorate of Cashew Research, Puttur celebrated the 33rd Foundation Day today. The occasion also marked the launching ceremony of a Farmers’ Meet and SCSP Programme.
The Chief Guest, Shri Sanjeeva Matandur, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), Puttur highlighted the role of agriculture in the Indian society and the changing scenario of agriculture in the country.
The Guest of Honor, Shri Venkatesh Hubballi, Director, Directorate of Cocoa and Cashew Development (DCCD), Kochi, highlighted the programmes of DCCD to popularize the cashew and its area expansion to the non-traditional cashew growing regions.
The Guest of Honor, Shri Prakash Natelkar, Managing Director, Karnataka underlined the achievements made by the Directorate over the years to improve the cashew production and the socio-economic status of the cashew farmers in the country.
Earlier, Dr. M.G. Nayak, Director (Acting) welcomed the dignitaries, delegates, farmers and other participants.
Six Publications on Cashew Cultivation and related aspects were released during the programme.
Shri K. Nagaraja, a progressive farmer growing Cashew in the Kolar District was felicitated for producing the high cashew yields by following the scientific cashew cultivation practices. Shri Nagaraja shared his success story with the other farmers present during the programme.
The programme registered a total footfall by about 200 participants including the farmers and the SCSP beneficiaries.
