A team of Scientists of ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Cotton Technology, Mumbai has been bestowed with 12th Doordarshan Sahyadri Krishi Samman Award - 2019 for their outstanding research work in by-product utilization of cotton.
Dr. Anil Bonde, Minister of Agriculture, Government of Maharashtra conferred the Award to the team here today at Mumbai.
Upon realizing the importance and economic potential of the value-addition to cotton stalk, a team comprising of Dr. P.G. Patil, Director, ICAR-CIRCOT along with Dr. S.K. Shukla, Dr. V. Arude, Dr. V. Mageshwaran, Dr. C. Sundaramoorthy, Dr. P.S. Deshmukh and Dr. A.K. Bharimalla developed the commercially viable and eco-friendly technologies and products, viz., briquettes, pellets, charcoal, activated carbon, particle boards, briquette-based eco-friendly green crematorium, efficient pellet stove, compost and mushroom cultivation.
The technologies are helpful in doubling the cotton farmer’s income. The research work helped in creating the business opportunities by the establishment of cotton by-product based industries in Vidarbha.
