The ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Cochin celebrated the World Food Safety Day at its campus today.
The theme for this Years’ World Food Safety Day was “Food Safety, everyone's business”.
In his inaugural address, Dr. Ravishankar C.N., Director, ICAR-CIFT urged the people to uphold the tenets of food safety in their daily life. The Director stressed on the fact that the food security requires food safety for its existence. He urged the people also to collectively take the onus to maintain the status in order to achieve the food security.
At the outset, the Director, ICAR-CIFT administered pledge to the Institute’s staff members to promote the safe food and prevent the food borne risks.
The video films on DART (Detecting Adulterants with Rapid Testing) developed by FSSAI for the rapid detection of adulterants in household food items were also screened in order to create the awareness about the methods for detecting the food contamination in our daily life.
The occasion also held an informative talk by Dr. M.M. Prasad, Head, Microbiology, Fermentation & Biotechnology Division on “Advances in Microbial Safety of Foods”. Dr. Prasad highlighted the emerging concepts like dysbiosis, “order from noise” and the underlying relationship between the microbiome & human health.
The Scientists and the staff members of the Institute participated in the programme.
