ICAR-CIFRI organizes Mid-Term Review Meeting of ICAR-Regional Committee - II

The ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore organized the “Mid-Term Review Meeting of ICAR Regional Committee-II” (West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and UT of Andaman and Nicobar Islands) at its campus today.

The Chief Guest, Dr. Joykrushna Jena, DDG (Fisheries Science & Animal Science), ICAR, New Delhi regarded the meeting as an excellent platform of ICAR for reaching out to the various states to solve their agricultural problems through the innovative technology and tools. Dr. Jena highlighted the importance and contribution of this region in the country’s food grain production and animal and fishery resources.

He stressed upon the centre-state coordination’s importance for the effective technology transfer. Dr. Jena opined to properly plan the agricultural system with the integration of animal husbandry, dairy and fisheries in order fulfill the target to double-up the farmers’ income.

Earlier, Dr. B.K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI and Member Secretary welcomed the dignitaries and delegates. Dr. Das provided an overview of the region. He stated that the states of the region are the major producers of a number of crops like rice, potato, tobacco, jute, poultry, fishes, oil-palm, vegetables and flowers.

The main aim of the meeting was to discuss the progress of action taken reports and recommendations made in the 23rd and 24th Meetings of the Regional Committee that was held at The ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (NAARM), Hyderabad and Institute of Management on Agricultural Extension, Bhubaneswar, respectively.

The Action Taken Reports of the 23rd Meeting were reviewed during the meeting followed by assessment of the progress of Action Taken Reports of the 24th Meeting.

Around 60 participants from the ICAR Institutes, State Agricultural Universities and State Agriculture/Animal Husbandry/Horticulture/Fisheries Departments of the States/UTs including Vice-Chancellors of BCKV, ANGRAU and 7 Directors of ICAR institutes and ADG (TC)-ICAR participated in the review meeting.
