ICAR and CIMMYT signed work plan for the year 2018-2022

A work plan (2018-2022) for scientific and technical partnership on maize and wheat systems was signed between Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR), Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) and The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), during Borlaug Institute for South Asia (BISA) ninth executive committee meeting, held on 1st June, 2018 at board room, NASC complex, New Delhi.

The work plan was signed by Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) and Martin Kropff, Director General, CIMMYT in the presence of all Ex-Co members and other senior officials. It has been developed to promote and accelerate close collaborative efforts in the field of maize and wheat systems.  

The proposed work plan continues to provide a platform for a series of formal collaborations which will be mutually beneficial and will strengthen research efforts of both organizations in various areas including the development, delivery of stress resilient and nutritionally enriched wheat and maize germplasm. Impact oriented sustainable and climate smart agricultural practices required in India, socio-economic analyses and the development of policy recommendations. It will also enables to organize training courses and capacity building on identified areas for benefitting researchers, technicians, students and other stakeholders in South Asia in general and India in particular, through synergistic use of the facilities and expertise of ICAR and CIMMYT. Linkages will also be made with other International Centers and national institutions, especially in Asia, collaborating with ICAR/CIMMYT on maize and wheat.
