With an aim to provide the women group with an identity of self-reliance and self-dependent, the 8th March every year is celebrated as the International Women’s Day all over the world with full enthusiasm and craze.
The theme for International Women’s Day this year, “Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change”, puts innovation by women and girls, for women and girls, at the heart of efforts to achieve gender equality.
The various ICAR Institutes also marked the celebrations of International Women’s Day - 2019.
The Director, ICAR-NIASM chaired the function. Dr. A.N. Rai, Ex. Vice-Chancellor, NEHU, Shillong was also present during the function.
The Institute arranged the live streaming of the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi’s address to the nation from National Women Livelihood Meet, Varanasi.
The programme registered a total participation by 150 participants including 90 women working in various capacities. The function concluded with the recital of national anthem.
ICAR-Indian Institute of Oil Palm Research, Pedavegi
The Institute also organized Essay Writing Competition and Extempore during the occasion.
Dr. Ravi Kumar Mathur, Director, ICAR-IIOPR felicitated the winners of the competitions during the closing ceremony.
In his inaugural address, the Chief Guest, Dr. G.S. Khush, World Food Laureate applauded the farm women for participating and exhibiting their ventures in the workshop. He lauded the Indian women’s capabilities of balancing and handling the work and home efficiently and effectively.
Dr. Khush also emphasized the balanced nutrition’s role for good health. He said that encouraging the farm women would help in strengthening the pathway of prosperity.
Dr. Arbinda K. Padee, IAS, Director Country Relation and Business Affairs, ICRISAT, New Delhi discussed about two products namely “Healthy Snack” and “Smart Breakfast” based on sorghum and millets developed by ICRISAT which are beneficial for the family’s health. He said that the institute is working towards preventing the malnutrition and the degradation of the environment.
Earlier, Dr. Rajbir Singh, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana underlined the various activities that are being carried out by the Krishi Vigyan Kendras of Zone-I for the empowering the farm women. He stressed on the importance of knowledge of healthy diet among the women, as they not only plan their own diet, but of their family too.
A workshop titled “Empowering rural women for addressing agricultural air pollution and one health” was also organized in collaboration with International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (CIMMYT) & International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) during the occasion.
The celebrations marked the participation by more than 100 innovative and progressive farm women from Punjab, Haryana, Jammu, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, NAARM accentuated the women’s role as the managers in home and work. The Director applauded the women’s capability to know how to adapt to the different situations at home or work. For making the occasion a memorable one, the Director also provided the Women Cell in collaboration with the farm section the responsibility of Amla and custard apple orchard development.
Dr. Rao also released a book on “Women in Agriculture (The Invisible Partners in Development)” during the occasion.
ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad
The ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad arranged the live-streaming of Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi’s address to the Self Help Groups of Kashi.
The Director of the Institute discussed about the various responsibilities of the working women. He also applauded the women staff’s contribution and urged them for working for the development of the institute.
ICAR-Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering, Bhopal
The ICAR-CIAE arranged the live webcast of the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi’s address to the nation on the occasion of International Women’s Day - 2019.
The occasion also marked the exchange of success stories of women groups during the interaction session.
The programme coordinated by Dr. Debabandya Mohapatra, Chairperson, Women’s Cell registered an active participation by the Heads of Divisions, PCs, Incharges of various sections and all administrative and technical staff of the institute.
ICAR-Indian Institute of Natural Resins and Gums (IINRG), Ranchi
The Institute arranged the Live Telecast of Inaugural Function of International Women’s Day by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi.
In his welcome address, Dr. K.K. Sharma, Director, ICAR-IINRG accentuated on the transformative shifts to advancing the gender equality and empowering women. He stressed on the importance of balance in equality for the society. The Director also said that the women are better than men in many fields.
A debate on the relevance of the idea of International Women’s Day Celebration was also organized.
The occasion marked the certificate distribution ceremony for the women trainees for completing the one-week training programme on “Scientific method of Lac Cultivation, Processing and Utilization”.
The occasion registered a total participation by more than 75 farmers, women scientists, women staff members and other stakeholders.
ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar
The Institute arranged the Live Telecast of Hon’ble Prime Minister’s address and interaction with the Self Help Group members.
The Chief Guest, Dr. S.N. Mohanty, Head, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Apollo Hospital, Bhubaneswar emphasized on the importance of women health and hygiene. Dr. Mohanty stressed on the physiological development of women in the different phases and need to maintain a good health for the development of a healthy nation.
The Guest of Honor, Dr. Subhashree Nanda, Joint Secretary, School & Mass Education Department, Government of Odisha stressed the importance of education in empowering the women.
Dr. B.R. Pillai, Director, ICAR-CIFA emphasized on providing the education to women in order to enhance their potential. She said that the society needs to change its attitude towards women in order to change itself.
The participants of different competitions namely Elocution, Quiz, Rangoli, Crafts, Salad Plating and Mehendi, etc., were conferred with prizes during the occasion.
ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar
The ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar celebrated the International Women’s Day - 2019 with full fervour and craze.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Anil Kumar, Director, I/C, ICAR-CIWA urged the women to take their own stands in the society and fight for their fundamental human rights, equality in the society. The Director also emphasized on the line of Simone de Beauvoir that states "One is not born but becomes a woman".
The Guest of Honor, Ms. Sneha Mishra, Secretary, AAINA applauded the institute’s initiative to celebrate the International Women's Day - 2019. She also lauded the work done by the institute for the farm women. Ms. Mishra urged to have an equal balance between both the genders with regard to responsibilities and opportunities in life.
The occasion also marked the delivery of a lecture on “Genesis of International Women's Day” by Er. Chaitrali S. Mhatre.
