The ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar, Odisha inaugurated the First Ornamental Aquaculture Field School of Odisha at the farm of Shri Rajesh Ranjan Mohapatra of Kochila Nuagaon Village, Tangi Choudwar Block, Cuttack District, Odisha today.
In his inaugural address, Dr. Saroj Kumar Swain, Director, ICAR-CIFA, Bhubaneswar urged the farmers and farm women for taking-up the Ornamental Fish Farming as a means to strengthen their livelihood. The Director outlined the popularity of the AFS Piloted by the Institute in Odisha, West Bengal, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
After receiving the training from ICAR-CIFA in Freshwater Aquaculture ventures, Shri Mohapatra now owns two farms spread over 6 acres.
The Unique Field School is established for facilitating the farmer-farmer learning and dissemination of Ornamental Fish Culture Techniques. The school envisages at empowering the Scheduled Caste Ornamental Fish Farmers / Farm Women of the nearby Villages contributing greatly to the extension and advisory services delivery.
Around 50 farmers and farm women participated in the event.
