Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra virtually lays Foundation Stone of Administrative Building of KVK, Surat, Gujarat

Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & DG (ICAR) virtually laid the Foundation Stone of the Administrative Building of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Surat, Gujarat today.

 

Regarding the KVK as an integral part of the farmers’ lives, the Director General accentuated that the specific problems of the farmers are solved by the KVKs. He also stressed that the income of each farmer in the adopted villages is to be doubled by following the integrated planning and strategy at the KVK level. He urged on organizing all the possible interventions in convergence mode. Dr. Mohapatra emphasized on documenting the models on doubling the farmers’ income. The Director General suggested the KVKs for adopting the innovative technologies like sensor-based irrigation, drone-based agriculture, high-tech farming and micro-enterprises for sustainable development in the rural areas.

Dr. Ashok Kumar Singh, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR emphasized on commercializing the AMUL based cooperatives, organizing farmers, harnessing potential of digital technology for reaching to the unreached farmers. He urged the Krishi Vigyan Kendra for fulfilling the higher expectations raised at different levels.

Highlighting the work of empowering the tribal people, Dr. S.R. Chaudhary, Vice-Chancellor, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari, Gujarat stressed on the increase in demand of organic food. He also emphasized on the terrace gardening that is attracting the group of women.

Dr. Lakhan Singh, Director, ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Pune, Maharashtra shared the innovative experiences practiced by the farmers, especially, about the soil-less cultivation of orchids and strawberry in two layers system. He also narrated about success of a tribal lady rearing 27 Gir Cows and realising about Rs. 15 lakh in a year. Dr. Singh urged the KVK to focus on value-addition and creating a marketing network for the organic products towards attaining the higher return.

Earlier, Dr. K.A. Patel, Director of Extension Education, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari, Gujarat welcomed the dignitaries.

A total of 87 participants virtually participated in the event.
