Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra interacts with Indian Forest Service Probationers at ICAR-NAARM

The ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, Hyderabad organized a Virtual Training Programme on “PRACom-2020: Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) and Communication Strategies” from 9th to 11th September, 2020. The programme was organized for the I.F.S. Probationers (2019-21 Batch) from the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA), Dehradun, Uttarakhand.

In his inaugural address, Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) outlined the significant strides made by the ICAR towards developing the future-ready technologies and varieties for addressing the various emerging challenges including the natural resource management and sustainable agriculture. The Director General urged the I.F.S. Probationers for making the best use of the network of agricultural researchers and extension functionaries spread across the country to further their conservation and sustainable development agenda.

Shri Bharat Jyoti, I.F.S., Director, IGNFA, Dehradun, Uttarakhand highlighted the various areas where the partnership can be expanded beyond capacity building, particularly, in establishing a national network of incubators to promote entrepreneurship in the forestry sector.

Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-NAARM, Hyderabad underlined the overview about the course.

During the training module, the I.F.S. Probationers were introduced to the various tools of PRA techniques and provided hands on exercises to relate how the tools can be used for real-life decision making situations. The participants were also provided an overview on the basic etiquettes on communication and imparted necessary skills for leveraging the digital tools to meet the various professional communication situations.

A total of 71 I.F.S. Probationers including two officers belonging to the Royal Bhutan Forest Service participated in the programme.
