Curtain Raiser: Agricultural Science Congress - 2019

“ICAR is committed to realize the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of doubling the farmers’ income by the Year - 2022 and enabling the productivity enhancement”, said Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & DG (ICAR) while addressing the representatives from the press and media during the Curtain Raiser on the occasion of “14th Agricultural Science Congress - 2019” held today at National Agricultural Science Complex, New Delhi.

During the conference, the Director General welcomed all the representatives from the press and media organizations and highlighted the main aim of organizing the “14th Agricultural Science Congress - 2019”. In his address, Dr. Mohapatra discussed about the various achievements of ICAR in the various arenas related to agriculture and farming.

Elaborating the key-points of the Congress, the Director General mentioned that the Congress will provide a single platform to the agricultural scientists, researchers and young research fellows engaged in the field of agricultural studies to interact and exchange the experiences from their unique expertise in the particular genre of agriculture and farming. This would help in planning out the new strategies to meet the particular demands and requirements.

He opined for the need to have proper strategies in order to address the numerous challenges and issues that arise in the field of agriculture and farming from time to time. Emphasizing on the theme of the Congress - “Innovations for Agricultural Transformation”, Dr. Mohapatra discussed about adopting the technologies and techniques that can come handy in enhancing the production quality. He also accentuated on the need to have a proper balance between food and agriculture as these two are capable enough to face the challenges of nutrition deficiency.

Prof. Panjab Singh, President, National Academy of Agricultural Science outlined the main attractions and the key-points to be addressed, discussed and dealt with during the four-day long agricultural extravaganza. Providing the brief synopsis of the event, Prof. Singh mentioned that the Congress will register a total footfall by 2,000 delegates along with participants from more than 17 countries.

Dr. A.K. Singh, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension) mentioned about the participation by the various agricultural institutes and universities in the Congress that will help in exchange of expertise in agricultural and farming fields.

Prof. R.B. Singh, Former Chancellor, Central Agricultural University, Imphal regarded the Agricultural Science Congress as one the unique congress. He mentioned about the steps that should be taken wisely to make the country malnutrition free. He also urged the people to work together in order make 1 plus 1 = 11. Prof. Singh also urged to give more importance to Krishi and work in the designated directions to make the country self-sufficient in all respects.

Dr. A.K. Srivastava (Additional Charge), Chairman (ASRB) and Dr. Joykrushna Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries Science) were also present during the occasion.

The “14th Edition of Agricultural Science Congress - 2019” will be organized at the National Agricultural Science Complex, New Delhi from 20th to 23rd February - 2019. The Congress is jointly organized by the ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) and National Academy of Agricultural Science (NAAS).The  Congress will organize several lectures, discussion rounds, symposiums, etc., to address the various challenges and issues being faced by people involved in the agricultural sectors.
