CRIDA Celebrated Agriculture Education Day

5th December 2017, Hyderabad

ICAR-Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture, celebrated National Agriculture Education Day on 3rd December 2017, to mark the birth anniversary of the first President of Independent India and Union Minister of Agriculture, Bharat Ratna awardee, Dr Rajendra Prasad. The objective of this day is to expose the students to various facts of agriculture and its relevance to country's development and inspire them to choose agriculture and allied subject as a professional career or become agro-entrepreneurs in future.

ICAR-CRIDA Celebrated ‘National Agricultural Education Day’ by organizing Essay writing competitions for Class VIII & IX students and Painting competitions for Class VI & VII students.  Students from 12 different Kendria Vidyala Schools located in Hyderabad and Secunderabad participated in the competitions. The theme for essay writing was Agricultural Science subject in the curriculum at school level is required or not? and the theme for painting was Indian Agriculture Scenario containing sub-themes :  (a) How farmers grow and sell their products;  (b) Farmers and agriculture scientists are interacting; and (c) Water harvesting.  Later students were taken to CRIDA Gallery on rain-fed technologies, climate research facilities like Open Top Chambers.

Dr R.Nagarjuna Kumar, Scientist, welcomed the students, teachers, parents of the students, CRIDA staff and briefed about the celebrations of Nation Agriculture Education day.

The students from KV- AFS-Begumbet, KV-Kanchanbagh and KV1-AFA-Dundigal won the 1st, 2nd, 3rd prizes respectively in Essay writing competition. The students from KV1-Uppal, KV-AFS-Begumpet, KV-Bowenpally won the 1st, 2nd, 3rd prizes respectively in the painting competition.  

Dr K. Sammi Reddy, Director (Acting), CRIDA congratulated all students for their participation and especially those who won prizes. He appreciated the interest shown by the students and encouraged them to participate in many more competitions. In his address, he advised the students to choose agriculture science as a career option and said that agriculture as a discipline which has huge opportunities and awareness of this has to be created through such science-based programmes. The meeting ended with vote of thanks by Ms Pushpanjali, Scientist.

The programme was coordinated by Drs R. Nagarjuna Kumar, Pushpanjali, Dhimate Ashish Satish,  V. Girija Veni,  C.N. Anshida Beevi, Jagriti Rohit. Dr. Prabhat Kumar Pankaj and A. Gopala Krishna Reddy also helped in the successful organization of this programme.
