Shri Rajesh Pawar, Chairman, Education and Finance, Zila Parishad, Satara along with 9 Members and Officers visited the ICAR-National Organic Farming Research Institute, Tadong today.
Shri Pawar briefed about the objective of his teams’ visit to Sikkim for adopting the Sikkim Organic Farming model in Satara, Maharashtra. He applauded the ICAR-NOFRI’s work carried out for the betterment of the farming community of Sikkim.
During the visit to the ICAR Research Farm, the team urged the officers for developing such kind of model to showcase them to the farmers of the Satara District of Maharashtra for adoption. Chairman, Members and Officers from Satara also interacted with the Institute’s scientists regarding the technologies developed at Research Farm.
In his welcome address, Dr. R.K. Avasthe, Joint Director, ICAR-NOFRI briefed about the various research, capacity building and skill development programmes being undertaken by the ICAR-NOFRI and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, East Sikkim during last 5 years that are aimed at doubling the farmers’ income by March - 2022 and the livelihood improvement through organic farming approach. He also highlighted the importance of integration of various components of Integrated Organic Farming System (IOFS) in a way so that output of each component is used as the input for the other components in IOFS module.
