The annual review-cum-planning meeting of two projects of Government of India including “Creation of seed hubs for increasing indigenous production of pulses in India” and “Enhancing breeder seed production for increasing indigenous production of pulses in India” was held at the ICAR-Indian Institute of Pulses Research, Kanpur today. Besides the above two projects funded by the Department of Agricultural Cooperation and Farmers’ Welfare, progress of Cluster Frontline Demonstrations on Pulses was also reviewed.
Dr. S.K. Malhotra, Agriculture Commissioner, Govt. of India applauded the progress of these projects and appreciated the efforts of IIPR as a nodal agency, he also cautioned to produce the seeds of only new varieties.
Dr. B. Rajender, Joint Secretary, DAC&FW, Dr. S.S. Tomer, Additional Commissioner (Crops), Dr. V.P. Chahal, Assistant Director General (Agril. Extension) and Dr. N.P. Singh (Director, ICAR-IIPR) also graced the occasion..
While reviewing individual centre-wise progress, elaborate discussions were held on the problems and constraints being faced and solutions were worked out. The definite role of all the above schemes towards ensuring self-sufficiency in pulses was highlighted.
More than 200 participants including Directors of Research and Extension of State Agriculture Universities, Directors of Agriculture Technology Application Research Institutes, Nodal Officers of Seed hubs and EBSP centres from across 24 states as well as scientists from ICAR-IIPR participated in the meeting.
