The ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE), Mumbai organized its 14th Convocation here today.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & DG (ICAR) emphasized on the importance of fisheries for food and nutritional security in the country. He underlined the young graduates’ role for achieving the desired goal. He urged the students for working towards the goal of bringing in the blue revolution in the country and enhancing the fisheries farmers’ income. Dr. Mohapatra also stressed upon the need to develop entrepreneurship for making the graduates as “Job Providers” rather than “Job Seekers”. The Director General also elaborated on the true education by citing the phrase that states "there are two types of education - one should teach us how to make a living and the other as how to live".
Dr. J.K. Jena, DDG (Fisheries), ICAR emphasized the role of fisheries institution in making fisheries sustainable in the country.
In his welcome address, Dr. Gopal Krishna, Vice-Chancellor & Director, CIFE highlighted the Institutes’ salient academic and research achievements. Dr. Krishna also underlined the research and thrust areas and the achievements in the flagship programmes taken up and new academic initiatives taken by the institute.
Dr. S. Ayyappan, Chancellor, Central Agricultural University, Imphal and Dr. Harsh Kumar Bhanwal, Chairman, NABARD were conferred the Honorary Degrees of D.Sc during the occasion.
134 M.F.Sc. and 80 Ph.D. Degree were also awarded, besides presenting 30 gold medals to the meritorious students.
Ms. Jerushma S. and Ms. Jenishma J.S. secured the top ranks for the Years - 2015-17 and 2016-18, respectively.
